onboarding

Next level onboarding

When you joined your organization, what was the onboarding process like? We have memories of lectures, a text-dense PowerPoint of the company’s mission statement and history…and lots and lots of HR policies.

Many organizations are recognizing that new hire orientation training represents a tremendous opportunity. Here’s a thought: What if onboarding was no longer treated as an expense, but as an investment that could save your organization millions of dollars?

We’ve got something that might interest you.

Onboarding as an immersive learning experience

Welcoming new hires into your organization is an opportunity to immerse them into your culture and dramatically compress the cycle of learning and inculcation.

Imagine a program based on immersive simulations and other discovery learning activities that enabled new hires to:

  • Understand their role.
  • Become productive much more quickly.
  • Improve their time to integration.
  • Enter the organization ready to serve as advocates and living embodiments of the brand.
  • Experience much less stress.
  • Become happier, more engaged and better retained.

Experience “a day-in-the-life”

At Blueline Simulations, we create deeply engaging onboarding training experiences. For example, one effective approach is to create a custom-tailored “day in the life.” This simulated approach allows learners to experience their new roles in very vivid ways. They experience and even “practice” the day-to-day activities required of them, enriched by true-to-life interactions with peers, customers, software and/or machines. And, of course, because it is simulated, the organization does not experience the inherent risks of making a real mistake.

Working with your stakeholders, Blueline’s instructional designers create organizational and departmental onboarding experiences for all levels of new hires or transfers – all to your specifications. Whether conveying the organization’s culture by allowing associates to virtually tour a key landmark or moment in time, or introducing your department’s processes and reporting structure, we will develop an experience that best inspires passion and confidence.

Rapid and cost effective Onboarding

The need:

One of the world’s most prestigious strategy and technology consulting firms was seeking an improved approach to onboarding new employees. They wanted to excite and engage their new associates while also equipping them with the skills needed to succeed in their first 90 days on the job. The firm engaged Blueline in dialogue around how their course content and curriculum might be delivered in a more powerful and engaging way.

The Blueline Simulatons solution:

Blueline delivered a curriculum that represented a new model of learning for the firm. The series of programs leveraged experiential and discovery-based learning techniques, including a Blueline Blueprint™ and a two-day, game-based simulation. Altogether, the multiple programs present a narrative that simulated the first 90 days of the new hire’s job. It enabled participants to make urgent connections between the concepts and the real world challenges; allowed for practice and application; and provided early networking opportunities that immediately created a context for success.

Over the course of the program’s many components, participants working in teams encountered realistic and challenging situations that required application of the firm’s core values, decision models, and planning and analysis tools.

The results:

The client has said that the new program is exceeding the objectives of exciting and equipping new employees while validating their decision to join the firm. Early program metrics indicate that it ranks among the best-received learning experiences that this client group has ever implemented.
